2017 Spring Session

Thank you to our community for the wonderful sign ups we’ve had so far into this new 2017 Spring Session. As the Premiere Dance Studio in Ojai, we are lucky enough to be offering wonderful new classes with amazing teachers. Some of the changes this session you may have noticed is Tap is Back! We are very fortunate to have Marni King join our team of teachers to offer Tap 1-2 and Tap 3-4. We have also offered a Jazz Funk class taught by the wonderful Ms. Brittney, a Lyrical 3 class by Ms. Sarah, also new to the Starlight Dance Family, plus an Adult Jazz class taught by Ms. Cece. There is still time to register for this session. Choreography for our Spring Recital……”Once Upon a Time”, has just begun. Be sure to sign up, so your child can be a part of the magical performance.

*Billing – Our office manager Deidra, is setting up a new invoicing system. Please remember monthly payments are due by the 10th of each month. Deidra will be sending payment reminders via email and it will have the option to pay by credit card directly from the email.

Kid’s Night Out and President’s Week

Starlight Dance will be offering a Kid’s Night Out on Saturday February 11th from 4:30pm-8:30pm…..in celebration of Valentine’s Day. If you and your special someone are wanting to plan a night out……drop the kids at Starlight Dance, where they will enjoy dancing, crafts, games, and pizza! Be sure to invite friends and spread the word. Cost is $20 per child, siblings are $15. Ages 6 and up. Preregistration is required. We will be open for President’s Day and President’s week. During this time we would like to offer a special event of “Bring a Friend for Free” week. Your child is welcome to invite and bring a friend to any dance class, provided they are new to Starlight Dance. They will be able to take a class for FREE during this week only. They will need a waiver filled out and signed by a parent. You can download waivers from our website at www.ojaistarlightdance.com or feel free to pick one up at the studio.

2017 Spring Recital…..”Once Upon a Time”

We are so excited about our spring recital! Ms. Susan our Ballet and Pointe teacher is creating our very own Fairytale Ballet for our ballet classes. Plus, all other classes are busy preparing their own choreography and technique in preparation for our recital. All classes will be part of the Spring Recital including our ever growing Acro Class.

Here are some important dates to keep in mind:

FEB. 10– First Costume Fee of $85 is due.  Additional costumes are $75 and payment is due April 10. (please let      us know if you need additional assistance)

FEB 20 – If your dancer will not be participating in the Recital please let us know by this date. Our teachers will continue to include all dancers in choreography but will be placing dancers in appropriate formations.

*Recital T-Shirts……We will have special Tshirts for our recital available to purchase @ $20. We would like ALL dancer names to appear on the back of the shirt. There is a signup sheet in the studio for you to PRINT your dancers first and last name or as you would like it to appear on the shirt. Please fill out this form by March 15.

*Program Dedications…..If you would like to have a special message to your dancer in the program for the recital, you can submit a picture in jpeg format with a short message. Deadline for this April 15th, cost is $35. Please send your dedication via email to ojaistarlightdance@gmail.com.

*DVD…..Preorder your show DVD now. Starlight Dance hires a professional videographer to film the recital. You can preorder your DVD now at the special rate of $40. DVD’s  will be available to order the day of at the cost of $50.

Once again we are all very excited about our Spring Recital, “Once Upon a Time” and hope you will encourage your dancer to be a part of it.

Starlight Dance Academy – November 2016

         Happy November friends of Starlight, our dancers are looking great, improving, working hard, and preparing for the holiday showcase.

( Dec 17th . Besant Hill School ) There is still time to register for classes and participate in our showcase if you are a new dancer. Come join the fun!

If you haven’t done so already please pay your $30 holiday showcase fee  by Nov 15th, you will receive a show T-shirt and two tickets. We will not be selling extra tickets till Nov 21st. If your dancer is not planning on being in the Holiday Showcase, please let us know. Please see the list of classes that will be in the Holiday Showcase.

   Starlight will be closed Friday November 11th, ( Veterans Day)  /  Thanksgiving Break Nov,23,24,25. If your dancer misses class due to holiday closure or illness they can do a make-up class in any other dance class in the same level. It is also a fun way for your dancer to try new style of dance.

Friday Hip Hop 1 will now start at 4:30 pm. The classes following will start 15 minutes later.

   I’m sure you’ve seen her around, but I would like to officially introduce a wonderful new member to the Starlight team, Miss Deidra Johnson as our new office manager. Deidra will be helping with the billing and behind the desk, so feel free to ask her studio questions. You might also see her helping with classes, as she is a current Aerial Instructor with a background in gymnastics and hand balancing.

 Thank you for your continuing support to Starlight Dance, we have updated our Facebook page, so please like us and share with friends a family. This is a great way to keep in touch with studio updates and pictures.

May Newsletter 2016

Hello Starlight Families,

We have a very busy month ahead of us here at Starlight.  We will continue to prepare for our recital on JUNE 23-25 at Matilija Auditorium.  This years show will be “ART OF MOVEMENT”
Recital information handouts and T-shirt and DVD order forms will be going home with you starting May 15.  On these handouts you will find all of the detailed information about the dress rehearsals, show call times, ticket purchasing information, t-shirt and dvd order forms.
May tuition due by May 10.
Final Costume Payment due May 15.  (for those students who paid half in February)
We will also be closed Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.
Costumes will be going home with your students starting June 1.  All accounts and costumes must be paid in full for costumes to be released to students.
We will be focusing heavily on finishing and cleaning our routines for the June Recital so we hope to have everyone in class.

This Friday marks Starlight’s 7 year anniversary!  CeCe and I opened our doors on April 1st, 2009, with a dream to share our love of dance with the Ojai Community.  Our studio has grown with so much love and talent from every teacher and dancer that have walked through our doors.  We are so proud and happy to have you all as a part of our studio.  Thank you for continuing to support us year after year.  It’s the stuff dreams are made of…

Tonight, Hip Hop III 6:30-7:30 will have an incredible substitute, Jasmine “Chinita” Miranda.  She has been a long time friend of Starlight and I cannot wait for you all to experience her energy and skills.
Also, Improv (Tuesday 7:30-8:30) and Contemporary III (Wednesday 7-8) will be dancing with Crow.  Crow has incredible Contemporary and Improv knowledge that she is excited to share with our dancers. We would like to offer these three classes free to all Starlight students ages 11+ up as Tinelle is out of town and this is an opportunity to experience more teachers.
Spring Break is next MONDAY-SATURDAY, APRIL 4-9.  We will resume classes on Monday, 4/11.
This years recital will be on June 23-25.  Please let your teacher know ASAP if you will NOT be performing in this years recital.
Tuition is due by Monday, April 11 this month due to Spring Break.

March Newsletter 2016

Jumping into the Month of March here at starlight with both dancing feet!  We are starting work on choreography for our Spring recital in all of our classes.  It is important that your child attends class each week so that they do not fall behind in their routines.  We do understand there are illnesses that are still passing through, however, and we appreciate you keeping those at home 🙂

We have posted a notice on the doors and inside that specifies the parent observation times.  Please help us to keep the learning environment calm and quiet for the dancers by only observing the first or last 10 minutes of your child’s class.  Also, please refrain from talking in the studio as it is a small space and it is challenging for the teacher to have to talk over parents and students waiting for the next class.
Tuition is due MARCH 10 for those paying monthly tuition.  You may pay by check, cash or cc at the studio or through our website via PAYPAL.  There is a $10 late fee for all tuition paid after the 10th of each month.
We have updated our website with dance video’s from this past years recital, “Way off Broadway”.  The younger dancers might really enjoy watching these videos as a way to help them understand what they will be doing in June.  www.ojaistarlightdance.com/Performance.
Starlight Dance Company will be performing at the Women’s Center Fundraiser Talent Show this Friday, March 11 at 6pm.  This is a great fundraiser for the community and is only $5 at the door.  There is something for everyone at this show!
Spring Break: April 4-9.  Starlight will be closed.

Hello Starlight Dance Families –

As we enter into February, I want to extend a warm welcome to our new dance parents and students.  January can be a busy month and it can be confusing navigating the dance world for the first time.  CeCe and I encourage you to email or call us with any questions that you might have about the classes, instructors and the recital process.
This month we have no holidays so we will run straight through without breaks.  We encourage you to bring your child to class each week as instructors will be starting choreography for the upcoming recital in June.
COSTUME FEE DUE FEBRUARY 1 
TUITION DUE FEBRUARY 10

 

If your child has more than one costume fee you are welcome to pay half total costume fee February 1 and the other half May 2. (If your child does not dance on Monday, you can bring Costume fee to their dance class this week).  You can pay online or at the studio. Please note that a $10 late fee will be assessed to the costume fee after the 10th of the month.
ACRO class with CeCe will NOT have a costume fee.
A reminder to all parents that you may stay in class to observe the first or last 10 minutes of class only.  It is a small space and can be very distracting to the teacher and students.
If you see a Starlight Company Dancer congratulate them on their accomplishments at the NUVO Dance Competition and Convention in January.  The Company I and II girls won High Silver in all of their competing dances!  They will be working this month with the talented Kelli Foreman on a contemporary routine for the June recital.  We are always happy to have her light in our studio.

Hello Starlight Families,

We are excited to be planning our 2016 dance year and want to keep you all informed and included in all of the great things that are happening at Starlight Dance Academy.  First, we are extending the 10% discount for those students paying in full for the Spring Session (check or cash only).  You will have until the 9th of January.
Registration dates left:
January 2: 10-11
January 9: 10-12
We are excited to announce that we have our show dates locked in for June 23-25.  We will also be planning the Ojai Nutcracker in 2016!  This show will be early December and will include all genres of dance.  It’s going to be a great year!
We are pleased to be offering such a great variety of classes with so many instructors.  Brittney and Rebecca will continue to teach on Mondays, Stephanie and Tinelle on Tuesdays, Stephanie/Susan/Tinelle on Wednesdays, CeCe on Thursdays, CeCe/Kelli (guest instructing) on Fridays and Susan on Saturdays.

Hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving break!

We are back in the swing of things this week and working hard on our dances for the Winter Showcase (in house) December 14-19.  Your children will be performing during their class times and we are encouraging you to come and bring your video cameras!
Mondays classes, December 14, with Rebecca and Brittney: last 15 minutes of each class
Tuesday, December 15 with Ms. Stephanie and Tinelle: last 30 minutes of each class
Wednesday, December 16 with Ms. Stephanie: last 30 minutes
Wednesday, December 16 with Ms. Susan: full class
Thursday, December 17 with Ms. CeCe: last 30 minutes
Friday, December 18: Special Company event (separate email will be sent)
Saturday, December 19 with Ms. Susan: full class
Your children’s teachers will have them wear something a little special for their performance, but please check with them individually or ask your child.
December 19 is the last day of the FALL SESSION.  Spring session will begin January 11.  You will need to register for the Spring Session.  Those students who are currently enrolled have first priority in the classes before December 19.
We will have the new schedule out by December 14 and will be handing out schedules during Winter Showcase.
Register before January 1 and pay in FULL for the Spring Session and you will receive 10% off your tuition.  
Registration dates are as follows:
December 19 from 9:30-1pm
December 28 from 12-2pm
December 29 from 10-12pm
January 2 from 10-11am
January 9 from 10-12pm
 
Please remember that December tuition is due by the 10 of the month for those students paying monthly.  There will be a $10 late fee for all tuition received after that date.  This is the final TUITION INSTALLMENT for the Fall session.

Hello families and Happy Halloween!

We have been having a lot of fun in dance class this past month and really got into the spirit of halloween this week in our classes.  We are going to start buckling down and working on choreography for the Winter Showcase running December 14-19 at Starlight Dance Academy (during student class times).  We are so excited with the progress we have been seeing and are told time and again by visiting instructors how talented our dancers are.
Speaking of visiting instructors.  CeCe and I are actively searching for an instructor the replace Connor Cassavan on Mondays.  He has school and another business that is keeping him busy so he will not be able to continue with Starlight at this time.  Next Monday Brittney Nevison will be teaching the 5-8pm classes and we are very excited to have her back!  Brittney taught for us two years ago and she was beloved by all.  If we are unable to secure one of the guest instructors for this session, Miss CeCe will be taking over Mondays classes for the duration of this session.
Kelli Foreman will be coming this Saturday, November 7 from 3:30-5:30 to teach a Contemporary workshop.  She is asking that there be at least 10 registered students in the workshop and currently there are only 4.  Cost is $20 for ALL interested ages 11 and up.  You must pre-register and pay to secure her coming down for this workshop.  Please tell all of your friends in the Nordhoff dance department and help us generate more interest.

We will close the studio Veterans Day, November 11 and  Thanksgiving week, November 23-28.  Any classes missed due to closures may be made up in another class.

Reminder that tuition is due by the 10th of the month to avoid a $10 late fee.

Hello Starlight Families,
With October approaching we want to take a moment to update you on What’s coming up. Saturday, October 3 the talented Kelli Foreman will be teaching two Contemporary Workshops at Starlight.
2:30-3:30: Contemporary II ages 9-12 $15
3:30-5:30: Contemporary III ages 13 and up $25
($20 surcharge for non-enrolled students)
Please drop us an email and let us know if your child will attend so we can have a head count for Kelli.
We are coming along great in our classes and are very happy with the progress our students are making.  Please continue to ensure that your child comes to class in dance attire with their hair pulled back ready to dance!  We ask that your child not wear their dance shoes outside of the studio to protect the new Marley dance flooring.
There are still pictures and DVD’s that need to be picked up from the studio.  Below is a note from Roland, the photographer:
Hi,
We have received a few correction requests to make on some picture packages.  Please post a notice or inform the parents we will accept any corrections up to the end of this month, September 30.  This also includes people who don’t even pick up packages until after the deadline.  We will then re-order all corrections necessary at that time, and all at once.  Any corrections after that time will be at customers expense.  New pictures can still be ordered after that date at the regular price.

Happy May to you all!

There is so much important information that we have to get to you, so I will just start a list below:
1. WAY OFF BROADWAY 2015, June 11, 12 and 13.  Information is going home with your children this week about the dress rehearsal, shows and ticket information.  Dress rehearsals and the 3 shows will be at MATILIJA AUDITORIUM.

2.  Tickets go on sale MAY 15 and will be available for purchase through a link on our website, www.ojaistarlightdance.com, orwww.brownpapertickets.com.  $12 advance purchase or $15 at the door.  Assigned seating.

3.  PLEASE check to make sure that your child has the apropriate dance shoes and that they fit.  Last day to order dance shoes for the recital will be MAY 20.
4. NO OPENING NUMBER CLASS THIS FRIDAY.  CeCe and I will be in Long Beach at the JUMP dance convention with the Company Students so there will be no class this Friday, May 8th.
5.  T-shirt, DVD and Program Advertising and Dedication paperwork are going home with your child this week.  The forms will also be attached to this email.
6.  NO CLASSES ON MONDAY, MAY 25, in observance of Memorial Day
7.  Costumes will be ready for pick up starting May 26.  Accounts must be paid in FULL for costumes to be released.
8.  Roland photography will be at the Dress Rehearsals on Thursday and Friday taking individual and group photos again this year.  The picture envelopes will be ready for pick up at the studio next week.
Khaliqa will be out for the rest of the session on Maternity Leave.  There will be qualified substitutes running her choreography and challenging the students with additional choreography through the rest of the session.
 
VOLUNTEER SIGN UP SHEETS: volunteer sign up sheets will be up starting next week.  ALL volunteers will receive a complimentary ticket to their show of choice.  (the seat will be pre chosen by studio owners).

April Newsletter 2015

Hello Starlight Families,

With April in full swing I want to remind you all that all classes return from Spring Break this week.  We will have no further interruptions to the schedule through the recital.
Next Friday, April 24, from 3:45-4:30 the Opening Number rehearsals will begin.  Rehearsals will run every Friday, with the exception of May 8 when we will be at the JUMP dance Convention with our Company Dancers.  If you are considering being in the Opening Performance Number you must not miss more than 2 rehearsals and you are required to perform at ALL 3 shows.  (you will be able to leave after the Opening Number if you don’t have any other dances in the show).
We have updated the website with the SUMMER CAMP and SUMMER WORKSHOP schedules.  Please note that the Frozen Forever Camp is $100, not $140.  Also, we are working on the dates and times for the Classical Ballet Workshops with Miss Susan.  I would like to add a tap workshop some time in July, as well.
Reminder that April tuition is due now.  There is a 3 day grace due to the Spring Break closure.

Hello to our Starlight Family!

Happy Spring Forward!  It’s that time of year where we gain a little more daylight and a lot more sunshine and happiness:)  Even though it is staying light out later, please make sure that your child(ren) are staying safe when at the studio.  We can only be responsible for them during our class hour with them, so if you are choosing to leave your child at the studio unattended, make sure they are safe and aware of your return time.
There are some event and vacation dates that we want to make you aware of so I will list them here:
3/20:  Women’s Center Talent Show.  The Company groups will be performing at 7pm.  This is a really fun and intimate talent show fundraiser at the Ojai Women’s Center each year.  There is a raffle and food and lots of fun talent from the Ojai Valley.  It’s a hoot!
4/6-4/11:  Ojai Unified Spring Break.  The studio will be closed. (please remember that you are welcome to do a make-up class any time in the session due to illness or studio closures)
4/24:  Opening Number Rehearsals begin!  We will have rehearsals form 3:45-4:30 each Friday until the show.  Your child will learn a dance to be performed at ALL 3 SHOWS in the June Recital.  There is no costume fee and no class fee.  Open to ages 7 and up!
JUNE 11, 12 and 13:  Spring Recital!!  We will have dress rehearsal and pictures from 8:30am to 4pm on the 11th and again on the morning of the 12th.  There will be an evening show on Friday the 12th, an 11:30am show for all of our tiny dancers 3-6years on the 13th and Company dancers, and another show on the evening of the 13th.

Happy New Year!

We heard your feedback and it sounds like you loved the Winter Showcase being in house. I do think it was great to have such an intimate setting and allow the parents and families to really see their children in their own element. They love to perform for you and we are always happy to show you all of their hard work and progress.

We are having two registration days at the studio, Tuesday, January 6 from 4-6 and again on Saturday, January 10 from 11-1. This is a great opportunity to discuss class options, buy clothing and shoes and to get 10% off if you want to pay in full for the Spring Session (cash or check only). If you cannot make it to registration, please just drop us an email and let us know what classes your children are interested in so that we can ensure there is enough space.

On another note, due to rising rent and instructor costs we have had to adjust our tuition to reflect these changes. We are happy, still, to be the least expensive dance academy in all of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties and will continue to strive to bring you the best instruction at the most economical price. All of the prices have been updated on our website.

For those of you planning your summer vacations, we will be having our June Recital the same time as last year, during the second week of June, the 11-13.

We are excited to start our Spring Session and look forward to seeing you all in the studio!

November 2014

Hello to you all and Happy Fall!

As the weather turns colder and the nights come more quickly, please make sure and pack your children sweatshirts and ask them to wait for you inside the studio after 5pm. We want our students to stay safe and warm in the winter months.

This December we are having “In House” Performances in place of a Winter Performance. During the week of December 15-20, the last 15 minutes of your child’s class(es) will be dedicated to their performance. Bring your cameras and get ready to capture the magic! Company Students will be contacted separately, in more detail about their In House Performance

More details will go home with your students in the first week of December.

November 11, Veterans Day, there will be no classes.
November 24-29 we will break for Thanksgiving Holiday
(Any and all classes missed due to Holiday closures and illness can be made up at any time during the session)

Please make sure and check the lost and found cubbies in the studio for any lost clothing, beverage containers and shoes. All items not claimed by the end of the month will be donated.

A reminder to check out the photography page on our website. Holly Roberts has posted some great shots and a link to all of her photos from past performances. Might be a great gift idea for the Holidays!

June/July 2014

Hi All,
We will be dance walking in this years parade! There is a Parade Prep class on July 3 from 3-4 pm at Starlight. The class is Free! During that hour we will learn the Parade routine and make signs for the Parade. On Friday, July 4th, we will meet at Matilija, by the athletic field, at 9am. We will dance walk all the way back to the studio where the kids can cool down in the studio, have lots of water and some treats while we wait for parents.

Please make sure your child wears a costume, any costume, sneakers, or other sensible walking shoes and sunscreen. Hats and sunglasses are also recommended. If your child would prefer to ride in a wagon or ride a scooter, that is fine, too.
Tinelle’s Contemporary workshop has been a great success. Don’t miss her Hip Hop Workshop Next week June 30-July 3 from 2-4pm. Cost is $80, ages 10+.

May Newsletter 2014

On this last day of April I want to take a moment to tell you how fabulous your kids are. Five years ago, this month, Catherine (Miss CeCe) and I opened Starlight Dance Academy with a dream to share our love of dance with the community. You and your children are a blessing to us and we are so very thankful to each and every one of you.

This May Miss CeCe will be leaving for Bulgaria and will sadly miss the June recital. She is preparing her students and classes will continue to run with qualified substitutes through the end of the session. She will be looking forward to watching this years performance on DVD when she returns, so lets make sure to work hard and make her proud!

Dedications and program advertising are due this week! If you are unsure about this process, just ask someone at the studio to see an example from past years programs and we can help you design your ad or dedication.

All show tank top orders are due by May 15! please submit your orders now, as there are no late orders on the tank tops. This years design is quite beautiful!

Tickets go on sale May 24 from 2-4pm at Starlight. I will be looking for people to volunteer at each show this year: June 13, 7pm (Company Dancers only), June 14 2pm & 7 pm. If you agree to sign up and help, you will receive one complimentary ticket to the show of your choosing. Dress Rehearsals will be held at Matilija on June 12 from 9-5pm and June 13 from 9-12. (more detailed information to come soon)

March Newsletter 2014

Hello to you all and happy March!

 We are happy to report that classes are running smoothly here at Starlight.  Everyone is showing up, eager to learn and full of creativity.  We will have a couple of Fundraisers happening this month for the Performance Company who will be attending the JUMP dance convention and competition in May. Stainless steel water bottles are for sale $20 and we will have a CAR WASH on March 22 from 1-3pm at Starlight.  Water Bottles and tickets can be bought from your favorite Company Dancer or at the Studio.  100% of proceeds go directly to the students to help them buffer the costs of the convention and competition.
We will have Spring Break from March 31-April 5.  There will be NO classes during this week.
I want to take a moment to promote my good friend, Susan Elizalde and her art lessons for children and adults.  She is an incredible artist and person and she is offering art classes here in the Ojai Valley.  Please visit her site and help nurture your child’s artistic development!  http://susanelizalde.bravesites.com

Hello and Happy New Year!!

Hope this newsletter finds everyone happy and healthy in this New Year!  We are thankful for our break, but cannot wait to get back into the studio and back to dance class!!
Classes resume Monday, January 6 with Brittney and Khaliqa.  If you have yet to register for classes this session and have any questions about classes that are appropriate for your child or are in need of new shoes, CeCe and I will be at the studio this Friday, January 3 from 11-1 to help you.  You can also just stop by and say hello 🙂

December Newsletter 2013

Hello and a Happy December to all of you;

We are quickly approaching the Winter Performance and have a lot of details and information to get out to you.  Your children will be bringing home yellow information sheets for each class this week.  They will have their rehearsal time, costume requirements and performance information on them.  Please read them carefully as this is the best way to keep everyone on the same page.
Costumes are going home this week and all accounts must be paid in full for them to be released.  Tickets will be on sale during class hours this week and next.  Please refer to my previous email to determine what show(s) your child will be performing in.  Remember you do get a free ticket with your child’s costume fee, but you will have to pick a seat as both shows are assigned seating.
Attached to this email you will find the dress rehearsal schedule and a flyer for Workshops, beginning in January, run by our ballet and contemporary instructor, Kelli Forman.  If you have trouble opening either, they will both be posted at the studio, as well.

If you are in need of dance shoes or tights for the performance, please let us know asap as it takes one week for delivery.

November Newsletter continued…

Ticket sales for the Winter Performance begin this Saturday, 11/23 from 2-4pm.  You can come and pick up your tickets that you purchased with your costume and purchase additional.  Tickets are $10 each.  All tickets are assigned seating.  Tickets will be available for purchase in class after this Saturday and at the door if seats are still available.

Winter Performance will be on December 14 at 2pm and 6:30pm at Matilija Auditorium.  Dress Rehearsal will be on December 13 in the afternoon and 14 in the morning.  Yellow recital information sheets will be going home with your children when we come back from Thanksgiving break.  Please read these carefully as there is a lot of important information on them regarding your childs dress rehearsal and show time.
Thanksgiving break November 25-30.  Classes will resume December 2.
Costumes will be going home with your children starting December 2.  Accounts must be payed in full before they will be released.

October Newsletter Continued…

Just a quick reminder that we will have all regularly scheduled classes running tomorrow, Monday, October 14.  Also, we will run only the 3pm Minis Jazz and 4pm Jazz I class on Halloween.

The Friday Cheer class will be performing at Ojai Day on the 19 of October on the Children’s Stage at 2pm.  Deidra would like to invite those students who attended Cheer Camp this summer to participate in the performance. If you are interested, please attend class this Friday the 18th to practice the dance and cheer.
Just a quick reminder that we would like parents to stay the first and/or last 10 minutes of class only.  If your child is having difficulty separating, it is ok for you to stay low and quiet and remain in the class.  We are working on dances for our Winter Performance (DECEMBER 14) and would love to be able to surprise the parents with our dances.
We are having such a great time, dancing our little hearts out!

October Newsletter 2013

Hello and Happy Fall,

We are off to a great start to the dance year here at Starlight and are learning so much in class each week.  There are so many great classes to choose from and we feel lucky to have so many talented instructors in and around the Ojai Valley.
There have not, unfortunately, been enough students to continue the Tuesday 7:15 Hip Hop II/III class, so we will be canceling this class as of October 8.  The Contemporary class will now run 1.5 hours on Tuesdays beginning at 6:15 and running to 7:45 as of October 8.
We have set dates for the Winter Performance of December 13 and 14 at Matilija Junior High.  Dress rehearsal times for the 13 will be announced closer to the date, but the Performance times on the 14 will be 11am  and 6:00pm. A costume fee of $40 will be due November 15 and will include one ticket to the performance of your choice.
There are still DVD’s and pictures ready to be picked up at the studio.  We are also able to order additional DVD’s if you did not pre-order, cost is $40.

August Newsletter 2013

Hi All,

As summer draws to an end we are looking forward to getting back to dance class!  We have so many new exciting classes in store for you this session and we can’t wait for you to try them!
We have updated our website with the Fall Schedule and Bio’s of our new instructors.  We encourage you to visit the website and take a look at all of the new class offerings.
 We are prepared to meet with all new and returning students at the studio on 8/24 from 4-6pm and 8/31 from 10-12 to get ready for the new session.  If you come to the studio and pay in full for the Fall session you will receive a 10% discount.  This is a great time to order your dance shoes and check out the dance attire we have in stock (if you don’t see it we can order it).  We will resume classes on September 9 with classes running through mid December.  We do not have a hard date set for the Winter Performance, but we are looking at the second week in December before schools break for the Holiday.
We are having Auditions for the Performance Company on 8/22; 5:00-6:00 for ages 7-11 and 6:00-7:00 for ages12 and up.  Khaliqa will be teaching the students a short routine and they will be expected to perform in small groups.
We are anticipating that DVD’s and photos from the Spring recital will be available for pick-up starting 8/24 and 8/31 at Registration.  If you are unable to make these times, then you can come during the Fall session to retrieve your items.

June Newsletter 2013

It’s SHOWTIME!

In case you haven’t heard our 4th annual June Recital will be held at Matilija on the 21st at 6:30pm and the 22nd at 11am and 5:30pm.  Bright yellow information sheets will be going home with your children starting JUNE 1st.  This sheet(s) will have all of the information that you need for the dress rehearsal and recitals.  Please put this on your fridge for quick reference.  Also, there is a change in plan for pictures this year; all individual and group pictures will be taken at Matilija during Dress Rehearsal on the 20 and 21.  Roland Photography will bring picture envelopes to the studio next week so that you can be prepared at Dress Rehearsal with your picture/package choices.
TICKETS GO ON SALE NEXT SATURDAY, JUNE 8 FROM 2-4pm at Starlight.  $12 per seat assigned seating (lap children are free).  The Volunteer sign ups are ready at the studio.  Each person who volunteers will receive one free ticket to the show of their choice.  All scholarship parents are required to volunteer at one show. Costumes will be released starting June 8 during ticket sales.  Accounts must be paid in full for costumes to be released.
There are only 3 weeks of classes left, so PLEASE try and make it to every class.  We want this to be a great show, and that takes every ones participation and dedication.  Remember, this is a TEAM effort and dancers excel with hard work and dedication!
Show tank top orders have been placed.  If you still want a show tank top, the cost will be $30 instead of $25.
Attached you will find the Dress Rehearsal Schedule for the recital and the workshop schedule for this summer.  You will still need to reference the yellow recital information sheet to know which show(s) your child(ren) will be performing in.

February Newsletter 2013

Hello and Happy February,

Just a note to say the dancers are doing a fabulous job in all of their classes at Starlight.  We are so happy with all of our classes and are always looking to add more fun here at Starlight.  With all of the flu going around, we appreciate you keeping your children home if they are not feeling well.  You have all session to make up missed classes at Starlight.  You can come to any alternate class in your child’s age group, just give us a call ahead of time and let us know you will be coming.  Also, a quick phone call or email if your child is ill or will miss class so that the teachers don’t worry, is much appreciated.
We have changed two of the class times on Thursday.  Ballet II will meet from 3:45-4:45 and Ballet III will meet from 4:45-6:15. Please make sure your child wears footed ballet pink tights, black leotard and hair in a bun to all ballet classes.
February tuition is due for those students who are paying monthly.  All tuition paid after the 10th of the month will incur a $10 late fee.
We must now order the costumes for the recital in order for their delivery in June.  Most companies make their costumes to order and we are one of the last studios to place our orders.  We need to know now if your child is NOT performing in the June recital.  Please let us know by email, in class or by phone.
Costume tuition is due by February 15.  Any tuition paid after the 15th will be subject to a $10 late fee.  You can pay on our website, or in class by credit card, cash or check.  Each class has a costume fee of $75.
 
Our Performance group from last session will be performing at a talent show at the Women’s Center this Friday at 6:30pm.  Come cheer them on and watch some great talents from our community.  All funds raised support the Ojai Women’s Center who serve our community and offer scholarships to students in our city.  What a great cause!

January Newsletter 2013

Hello and Happy New Year!

After a relaxing holiday we are all ready to come back to the studio and get moving here at Starlight.  The new schedule is on the website for the Spring 2013 session and we are happy to announce the addition of classes and teachers (Deirdra/Cheer) at Starlight.  We have added another level of Ballet, by invitation only, a new mommy and me dance/tumble/yoga class and introduction of our Company Classes that will be competing at the JUMP dance convention this year in Los Angeles in May.  You are encouraged to email or call us to reserve your child’s space in the classes asap. There will also be two registration days at the studio this week where you can come in and talk with us about the classes and buy shoes and dance attire, if needed.
There is a box of lost and found items from the recital that is in a box outside the studio.  Please come by the studio this week see if any of the items are yours.  All items not claimed will be donated by January 7.
Due to instructor conflicts, Contemporary/Lyrical and Hip Hop will begin on the 28 of January.  The cost for these classes will be prorated.  All other classes will begin as scheduled on the 7 of January.
The recital this year will be held on June 21 and 22.  please plan accordingly as we will be ordering costumes for the recital in February.  All costume monies will be required in full by February 1, 2013.  Each class has a fee of $75.

Welcome to December!

The time is flying by and we have many important dates to remember for December, so I will cut to the chase:

December 8: Ticket Sales from 2-4pm at Starlight.  Assigned seating for the 4:30 and 7pm shows.  You can pick up your costume at this time and let us know what classes you will be taking in the Spring.

December 8: Holiday Hip Hop Kids Night Out from 6-9pm at Starlight. ($20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child) please call or email to secure your child(tens) spot

December 10: December Tuition due (if you are paying monthly)

December 14: Dress Rehearsal at Matilija Auditorium

3:00-4:00 – all level I and II tiny tots and minis

4:00-5:00 – all level I classes (jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop and cheer)

5:00-6:00 – all level II classes (tap, jazz, ballet lyrical I) + student choreography

There is a sign up at the studio for volunteers.  Scholarship students are required to sign up to help for dress rehearsal, 4:30 or 7pm show.  We will need 20 additional volunteers to make this all happen!  If you sign up you will receive one free ticket to the show of your choice.  We also need cookie donations for both shows to sell during intermission.  All proceeds benefit the Becky Buckley Scholarship fund.

I am looking to borrow a wooden bench for the Winter performance to use on stage during my tap performance.  If anyone has one I can borrow, please let me know.  Also, I have a very heavy cement bench that was donated to the arcade when my mother passed away in memoriam to her as a dance instructor in Ojai.  I need some men with strong backs and a truck to help me transport the bench from the east end to the studio.  Please email or call if you are able to help in any way.

We will be putting in one final order on December 8 for shoes, tights, leotards and anything else you might need for the Winter Performance.  Please get your orders in soon!

One of our little dancers brand new black tap shoes have disappeared.  If you find a size 12 revolution dance wear patent leather pair of tap shoes, please return them to Miss Stephanie.

We will break for the Holidays until the Spring Session beginning January 7.  The new schedule will go out with the programs at the Winter Performance.  Email or call us to let us know what classes your child is interested in and we will secure their spot!

October Newsletter, 2012

Hello to all and HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🙂

With October quickly coming to an end we want to take a moment and update you on all the great things that will be coming up in November.  All of the classes are working hard to complete their dances to share with you at our 4th Annual Winter Performance!  Scheduled for December 15 at Matilija Auditorium.  Yellow slips of paper are going home with your children this week that explain the costume fee, rehearsal and show dates and times.  In order to make everything go smoothly, we ask that you return your costume fees by the 10th of November (Check or cash) to Karen, Cece or Stephanie.  If your child will not be performing in the Winter Performance, they are still welcome and able to continue with classes and choreography, we just ask that you let us know asap.  Tickets for the performance will be on sale December 8 from 2-4 at Starlight, assigned seating.  You are welcome to video record your child’s Winter Performance, however, there is still no photography allowed.

November 17:  Thanksgiving Kids Night Out from 6-9pm.  $20 includes dinner, crafts, dancing, tumbling and more!
November 20-24: NO CLASSES, Thanksgiving Break!
We have decided to cancel Hip Hop I and II this Wednesday due to many students who would rather go trick or treating.  We welcome you to take an alternate class on our schedule as a make-up class for this closure.  There are many alternate classes to chose from and who knows, you might find you really like tap dancing or ballet or cheer or jazz or contemporary!
On another note, Miss CeCe has suffered a concussion and will need to take it easy for a couple of weeks to recover.  All of her classes will be covered until she returns.

July 2012 Newsletter
Hello,

Just a few notes about the 4th of July parade this year. We are having another Parade Prep class on Tuesday at the studio from 3:00-4:00pm. All students are welcome to join us for Parade prep and to march/dance in the parade. The class is included in your June tuition.
We have decided to combine our efforts with Ojai 100 for Schools this parade year. We will be marching/dancing together to help raise awareness and funds to help save teachers jobs in Ojai. We will be #54 in the Parade line-up and will meet at the Matilija field at 8:30am on Wednesday July 4th. Look for the big Yellow 100 for Ojai Schools signs and meet there in costume. MAKE SURE AND WEAR COMFORTABLE WALKING SHOES AND SUNSCREEN.

Don’t forget about the great workshop line-ups that we have for you in July. We are offering Contemporary/lyrical with Khaliqa, Ballet with Pamela, Street Hip Hop with Pedro and Tap, Jazz and Pilates conditioning with Stephanie and CeCe. All workshops are listed below and are open to dancers age 8 and up. You don’t have to attend both days of each workshop. Feel free to mix and match and try something new. It’s a great way to stay conditioned during the summer months.

SUMMER WORKSHOPS

2012

CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL WORKSHOPS: AGES 10 AND UP JULY 19 AND 27. 4-7PM
These classes are a fusion of ballet and jazz that will focus on technique and will include choreography to enhance a dancers abilities in this genre. (Khaliqa)

HIP HOP WORKSHOPS: AGES 8 AND UP JULY 11 AND 25. 3:30-5:30PM These classes will focus on choreography and hip hop styling. (Pedro)

BALLET WORKSHOP: AGES 8 AND UP JULY 12 AND 26. 3:30 – 5:30PM
These classes will help keep your dancer conditioned during the summer months and improve their overall skills and technique in all forms of dance. (Pamela)

TAP, JAZZ AND CONDITIONING: AGES 8 AND UP JULY 9 AND 23. 4-7PM
These 3 hour workshops will focus on rhythm tap, jazz technique and pilates conditioning to help your dancer build strength and achieve their goals in dance. (CeCe and Stephanie)

Workshops are open to all students. No prior experience necessary. Choose multiple workshops and mix and match the days. You do not have to attend both days of one workshop. Discounts available for multiple siblings.

Roland Photography will be at the Studio Saturday, June 16 from 2-5 to take individual dance photos. There will be sign ups at the studio this week. Group photos will be taken during the dress rehearsal.

Holly Roberts will be taking live action shots during the recitals. You will be able to commission her to take pictures of your child during the recitals. More info about her services and prices will be available at the studio soon.

Welcome to March!

We are moving right along in our classes at Starlight and are happy to see students branching out to try new classes, exploring new instructors and improving greatly in their skill and technique. We are committed to the belief that dance is not only a beautiful art form but a wonderful discipline that expands the mind and improves learning and creativity in all areas of life.

We are having three KIDS NIGHT OUT in March at Starlight to help raise money for the Performance Groups who will be competing at Tremaine Dance Convention in April. CeCe or I will oversee an organized event for kids accompanied by the performance group girls. There will be dancing, games, art, and more! Pizza dinner will be provided for all of the children. The evenings will run from 5:30-8:30 and the cost is $25 for one child and $10 for each additional child. The dates for March are the 10, 17 and 24. We will need a minimum of 8 children to run the Kids Night Out, so don’t be afraid to tell your friends! These events are not limited to Starlight Dancers. (ages 3 and up only please). To secure your child(ren)s space you will need to email or call us and let us know what nights your children will attend. Payment is due the night(s) of the event. Please contact us for any additional information.

Reminder that tuition is due by March 10.

Hi All,

Welcome to the month of love! Here are Starlight we love to dance and are so happy to see all of you and your children do, too! We are excited to announce that our Starlight T-shirts are on sale the entire month of February for just $10 each. That’s a 50% savings. So give a pink shirt to your favorite dancer for Valentines day.

We are also happy to announce that we are accepting all major Credit Cards at the studio. There is a $50 minimum purchase and transactions must be made through Stephanie or CeCe.

Costume Fees are due by FEBRUARY 15. All classes are a $75 fee which will include costume, tights, hair net and accessories. This fee can be paid by cash, check or credit card. We are willing to break the costume payment into two payments of $37.50 due February 15 and April 15, however, if nothing is paid by the 15, we will assume that your child is not participating in the June recital and no costume will be ordered. We will post pictures of your child’s costume by this Friday at the studio.

Starlight is open for all classes during Presidents Week. Starlight will not close with the Ojai Unified School district.

If your child decides to discontinue a class at Starlight, please contact us through email or by telephone so that we may fill your child’s space with someone from our waiting list. Enrollment for Spring session will close at the end of February, so please let your friends know if they are interested in taking classes.

Please remind your children to be careful and considerate of the business park neighbors when coming and going to class. We do not mind if you hang out in front of the studio, but some of the offices are complaining about loud behavior. Also, please respect the plants and trees. Do not walk through planters and do not pick the oranges and toss them on the ground or at each other. Do pick the oranges (when ripe) and enjoy them!

We are so happy with all of our classes and students and hope that you all are enjoying your teachers and lessons, as well. Please do not hesitate to contact CeCe or I with your questions or concerns as they arise. We are available by email or by phone, 646-3732.

Hello and welcome back from your Thanksgiving Break,

We have nearly three weeks of classes before the Winter Performance. Things are looking good, but we still have some work to do! The Dress rehearsal will be on December 9 and the Performance will be on December 17 (both at Matilija Auditorium). Costumes and accessories will be described below and will be allowed to go home starting December 3 at our Spring registration and ticket sales from 11-2pm at Starlight. Remember, the costumes cannot be released until your account is paid in full and many students are still lacking proper shoe and dance attire. You will need to let us know this week if you need tights, leotards or shoes as it takes 1-2 weeks for the items to arrive. Thank you for understanding.

Yellow Winter Performance information sheets will be going home to your children starting this week. They will cover ALL of the information you need regarding the Rehearsal and Performance. If you do not get one by Saturday, please pick one up at the Ticket sales/Spring Registration on Saturday from 11-2 so that you are well informed. Tickets will be assigned seating and will sell for $10 each. Reminder that you must register for the new session or your spot may go to another student, so please let us know asap what classes your children wish to take in the Spring Session (beginning January 2). FALL SCHEDULE IS NOW AVAILABLE ON -LINE AND IN THE STUDIO!!

We are excited to announce the addition of two talented instructors to the Spring Session. Leeyan Neely will be taking over the ballet program on Thursdays, due to a schedule change for Khaliqa. Leeyan taught one day this session when Khaliqa was out and we are so happy that she has agreed to come and teach with us. She danced for the Canadian Ballet Company for 13 years as a professional ballerina and traveled with Jesus Christ Superstar for many years as well as a score of other Broadway shows. She has a wealth of knowledge and grace and we look forward to her joining the family. Khaliqa will be teaching two Contemporary Lyrical classes on Tuesdays from 5-6 and 6-7. These classes are a perfect blend of jazz and ballet and will be a great accompaniment to your children’s dance growth. Remember that the second, third and fourth class you take are dramatically discounted, so jump in and have fun with Khaliqa!

The second instructor is Brittney Nevin who will take over our Hip Hop classes on Wednesdays. Brittney has studied with some great instructors in L.A. and Ventura and most recently returned from New York where she spent 2 years honing her craft. She will focus on popping and locking as well as current trends in the hip hop dance world. She is a seasoned teacher who was teaching 17 classes a week while living in New York! It is so great to have so many great teachers come to the Ojai Valley to share their craft with us.

In other news, the beautiful and talented Krista Kim has put together another great cast of actors performing Aladdin Jr at Theater 150 nest Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5pm. Our very own Starlight Dancers need your support and would love to hear you cheering them on from the audience. Starring Amaya Hull as Jasmine, Keaton Kim as Genie, Payton Kim as Jafar, Hudson Kim as a guard, Katie McArthur as the Magic Carpet and Maya Aparicio as the Sulton. This is a wonderful production and is not to be missed! Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on www.theater150.org.

Are you Ready?

Classes begin next Tuesday, September 6!  We are geared up and ready to have a great 2011-2012 dance year here at Starlight Dance Academy.  Some of the best compliments that we received after the June Recital were that our dancers look like they are having so much fun!  This is what we are aiming for.  A fun and creative environment where our students can learn and grow in their technique and the joy for dance.  This year we are introducing a new ballet teacher, Khaliqa Smith, who will be traveling from Ventura to teach our students on Thursdays.  She is kind and talented and we look forward to you meeting her and experiencing all of the great lessons she has to offer.

Many of our classes are full and/or close to full, so hurry in to register for the Fall Session (all students must pre-register for classes).  CeCe and I will be at the studio from 5-7 this Thursday night, September 1st.  Come and register, order your dance shoes, ask questions ( we have a handout that gives all of the important new policies and dates for the Fall Session) and check out all of the new dance clothes that we have in stock!

During classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays you might encounter our new assistant Karen behind the desk.  Karen will be answering the phones, taking role, helping parents and students with transitions and making sure that the studio environment is conducive to learning.  She will be helping to enforce our new policy of parents and friends staying the first or last 10 minutes of the class with full observation days on the last day of the month, ensuring there is no food or beverages (other than water) being consumed in the studio, and most importantly that students come to class in dance attire with their hair pulled back.  Thank you, Karen!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

We are quickly dancing through our summer vacation and preparing for some great workshops in August and registration for the Fall Session. CeCe and I have been working hard on the schedule for next session which is available for pick up at the studio and will be posted on the website this weekend.
We are introducing a new Ballet instructor this session and we are excited for you to meet her. We have set up a “Meet Khaliqa” dance workshop for Thursday, August 11: 3-4pm (5-7yrs) and 4-5pm (8 and up). The class is just $5!! Please call or email us for more information.
Fall Session Registration is August 20 from 11-2 or Thursday, September 1 from 5-7. Fall Session begins September 6. You can pick up your Roland photography pictures and Stars of Tomorrow DVD’s at these times, as well.
Our website will be updated with Paypal so that you can pay your tuition on-line by August 20.
If you Pay in Full for your Fall Session you will receive Free Annual Registration (a savings of $20).

Hello,

Getting close to show time and there are yellow Recital Information sheets going home with your children this week.  PLEASE DO NOT LOSE THESE PAPERS.  They have all of the rehearsal and recital times for your children on them.  If your child is in multiple classes they will receive a flyer for each class.

Recital DVD’s will be recorded by Ray Singer this year.  He is an excellent cinematographer and just so happens to be the creator of MULAN.  He will record the Friday and Saturday morning shows and create two 90 minute DVDs with wide shots of most dances,close ups of our tiniest dancers in the Saturday morning show and rehearsal clips and backstage moments.  This DVD set will be $45 and you can order now until June 18 at this price.  After June 18, the DVD will be $50.

We are still looking for volunteers at the recitals.  All volunteers will receive a free ticket to a show of their choice valued at $13.  We are also looking for refreshment donations.  These donations will be sold at intermission to support our scholarship fund.  We currently have 7 students on scholarship and would love to keep this wonderful tradition going.

We are open for classes on Memorial Day, May 30th!  Please try and come to all of your classes now, through the recital as we are working hard on choreography and need all of our teammates present to make these dances spectacular!

Saturday, June 11 From 11:30 to 4:00, Roland Photography will be at Starlight for individual pictures.  You can sign up for your pictures at the studio and pick a price and package information sheet at the studio.  Roland captures these precious moments perfectly and has the sweetest disposition with the kids.  He did a great job with the pictures last year and we are happy to have him again this year!

Our Summer Schedule will be out Next week!  Look for it online and at the studio.  4 week session in the month of July and 2 weeks of Summer Camp for ages 3-10!

Summer Session classes will be 4 weeks in July, Mondays for Jazz ages 6-10 and teen and Combo tap/ballet and STOMP Tap on Tuesdays for ages 3-5 and 6-10 (times to be announced in May).

3-5 year old Rhythm and Movement Princess Dance Camp exploring tap, ballet, jazz and creative expression.  July 11-14 from 9am-12:30pm, $120.

6-10 year old Dance Technique Camp focusing on Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Modern and Hip Hop.  July 18-22 from 9am-1pm, $150.

March Newsletter:

Is it March already?!

We are dancing into our third month of the session here at Starlight and having a fabulous time.  A big thanks to our instructors and parents who do such a great job getting our kids in the studio and enriching their lives with the magic of dance!

With the month beginning, remember that tuition is due by the 10th of the month (a $10 late fee will apply after the 10th).  You are welcome to pay monthly or the next session payment which covers March and April tuition (preferred).
On March 11th we will be having a fabulous Master Class with Joelle Martinec.  The class will be held at Starlight from 4-5:30 and is open to Starlight dancers ages 11 and up.  Cost for the Master class is $20.  Please let us know ASAP if you are able to attend this amazing Master Class.

April 15th, costume balances will be due.  Your child will be given a slip of paper the first week in April with the balance, please look for it.

April 15th and 16th Starlight will go to the Tremaine Dance Convention in LA.  Our performance groups will be competing and dancing the two days at the convention.  If you are interested in attending the convention, there will be an informational meeting at Starlight this Friday, March 4th from 4:20.  All Starlight Dancers ages 7 and up are welcome to attend the two day convention.

Beginning April 22nd – June 9th, Fridays from 4:30-5:30 will be open to students who wish to be in the Opening number and Thriller with Sophia Enriquez.  There is no charge for this hour of dance and you will learn extra dances to perform at the recital and just have fun.  If you miss more than 2 Friday classes, you will not be able to perform the extra dances in the recital.

Rehearsal for the June recital will be on Thursday the 16th (individual times tba).  Recitals will be on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th.  CeCe and I will be running Parade Prep through the end of June and we will Dance in the Parade on July 4th!

Dance Camps and Summer sessions will run the month of July and we will be closed the month of August.

February Newsletter 2011:

Hello and welcome to February at Starlight!

We are moving right along in our classes and the kids are learning a ton!  There are a couple of classes on the schedule that are no longer running due to low enrollment, Tuesday 5:30 Tap III, Thursday 2:30 Level II Combo, and Friday 3:30 Level II Combo.  There are no make-ups available in these classes.

A reminder that Costume deposits are NOW DUE.  If you have not made your payment already, please do so ASAP.  I will be sending out paper bills to those students that have not paid and attaching a late fee.  We appreciate your attention to this matter as we need to place our orders for costumes this week.

We will be open during Presidents Week, February 21-26.

The dates for the recital are June 16, 17, and 18.  (not the 19th as originally stated).  This year after the recital we will run Parade Prep classes through the end of June in preparation for dancing/marching in the 4th of July Parade (these classes are included in the tuition for Spring Session.  No extra charges will apply).  We will run 4 weeks of Dance Camps and Summer Session and be closed for the month of August.

Goodmorning and Happy New year!

Spring Session Begins this Monday!  Hope you had a wonderful Holiday with family and friends and are ready to dance again!

We are very proud of our dancers and their performances at the Winter Show, but cannot wait to get back into the studio and get moving again!

Some important dates to remember.  Please mark your calendars:

January 3-8: Spring Session begins, first tuition payment due.

February 1: Costume payment due for June Recital (prices to be anounced in each class)

February 25:  Master Class fom 4-6:30pm with Professional Dancer from Los Angeles (Cost is $15 for Performance Group and $20 for ages 11 &up non-performance group dancers)

March 1: Second Tuition payment due.

April 16-17: Tremaine Dance Convention (open to Performance Group and Starlight Dancers ages 7 and up.  Please Contact Stephanie or CeCe for more information)

May 1: Final tuition payment due.

June 16, 17, 18:  Dance Rehersal and recitals.

December Newsletter 2010:

Hello to you all –

The Winter Performance is going to be a great start to the holiday season.  The theme of this years performance is “Holiday’s Around the World”.  We have some wonderful dancers and great choreography;  It is sure to be a great show!  The tickets go on sale December 1st and will open for public sale on December 11th.  Get your tickets early as there are a  limited number of seats. (open seating)

Advance Purchase: $10 for adults, $6 Children (10 and under)
At the Door: $12 adults, $7 Children (10 and under)

Winter Performance is SUNDAY, December 19th, 5:30pm at Ojai Valley School (723 El Paso Rd, Ojai).

There will be a dress rehearsal the same day at Ojai Valley School (In the Theatre).  Below is a list of Rehearsal times.

All Level I Tiny Tots: Arrive at OVS at 10:00am
ALL Level II/III & IV Minis: Arrive at OVS at 10:30am
ALL Petite Jazz, Tap, Ballet &Hip Hop I: Arrive at OVS at 11:15am
ALL Junior and Senior Jazz, Ballet and Hip Hop II: Arrive at OVS at 12:00pm
Performance Groups will Rehearse at 12:00pm

Expect to be at the Theatre for 30  minutes to 1 hour.

Curtain Call is at 4:45pm for all Level I, II, III and IV dancers.  Please make sure that your child has eaten and take them to the restroom when you arrive for Curtain Call.  All dancers will be in  classrooms with their age groups and will be closely monitored by trusted childcare providers.  You are to leave your cell phone number with the childcare providers and keep your cell phone on vibrate during the performance.

Curtain Call for the Petite, Junior and Senior Level dancers is 4:30pm.  There will be a classroom for all of your children as well, and my assistant Claire will be overseeing the younger children in this area.
The Performance Groups will remain in the backstage area for the duration of the performance.

Please remain in your areas so that you are ready to go on stage at the apropriate time.

If you have yet to pay for your tuition and costumes please do so asap.  We will not release costumes to students/parents whose accounts have an outstanding balance.  We appreciate your understanding.

You will be allowed to videotape this performance, but please no photography (flash or no).  If you choose to record, please be curteous of people behind you.

Doors will open at 5pm, so get there early if you want to get a good seat!  There will be no reserving seats for groups.

DECEMBER 11th there will be Registration and ticket purchase from 11-2pm.  To reserve your childs space in class, please make a payment (or payment arrangements) on or before this date.

November 2010 (part 2):

Happy Fall!

Hope everyone is adjusted to our new time.  Please be aware that with the new time change and early nightfall that your children should remain in the studio until a parent arrives to pick them up.  We will always remain with your child inside the studio until you arrive, however, it is important to be punctual when picking them up at late hours.

Another friendly reminder that tuiion is due by NOVEMBER 10th.  Any tuiion received after this date will be subject to a $10 late fee.  We appreciate your attention to this matter.

Costume payments are due by the 15th of November.  Please check with me or CeCe for the cost of your childs costume.

We will be breaking for Thanksgiving Wednesday, November 24th through November 27th.  Classes missed due to this closure should be made up prior to the closure due to the proximity to the Winter Performance.  Please call the studio to let us know your child will be coming to do a make-up.  (you do not need to wait for a call back)

Check the Lost and Found cubbies at the studio (located underneath the corkboard)  for any items you may have left behind.  We will be donating all items not claimed by November 23rd.

We are having a special on Starlight T-shirts for the remainder of November.  All T-shirts are priced to sell at cost for $13 (regularly $20).

Winter Performance will be held at Ojai Valley School, lower campus, on December the 19th at 5:30pm.  Rehearsals will take place earlier in the day.  Tickets go on sale December 1st.  We will be at the studio December 11th fro 11-2 registering for Spring Session and selling tickets, as well.

If you have design skills and are willing to help with a simple program design, you can receive a discount in tuition for the Spring Session and free tickets to the December performance.  Please reply to this email if you have the skills and the time to help.

We are also looking for creative ways to raise money for our Scholarship Fund.  If you have any ideas, please let us know so we can keep offering discount lessons to those in need.

Finally, don’t forget to tell us if you plan to return to your classes in the Fall (in email, preferably).  We will have Open Registration on December 11th from 11-2 where the public can register for classes and buy tickets to the Winter Performance (open seating).  Secure your spots now!!

Greetings From Starlight!
 
A big thank you to all of you who came out in support of our dancers on Ojai Day.  Our dancers did a great job and we are so proud!
 
CeCe and I are impressed on a daily basis with the improvement of our dancers.  They are all working so hard and it shows!  We are at the mid point of the session and have started working on our dances for the Winter Performance (December 19th).  The costumes for the performances will be small and cost effective.  A fee of $10-$15 will be due November 15th.  Please check with me or CeCe for the specific amount due.
 
Remaining session tuition is due November 1st.(This covers November and December tuition.)
 
We will be closed November 24-27 for Thanksgiving Break.  (Any classes missed due to studio closures may be made up prior to the holiday.)
 
We will be adding additional classes in the Spring Session due to the full capacity of many classes in this session.  Please notify us by December 15th if you plan to return in the Spring so that we may secure your child’s spot.

October 2010:

Happy October!

The weather has finally cooled off as we glide into our second month of the Fall Session.  We could not be happier with our staff and students and are so happy to be dancing and joyful every day at Starlight.  Thank you to all of the new and returning students for all of your hard work and dedication in class and to the parents for bringing your children each week to class – I know it’s hard not to feel like a taxi cab in the afternoon, but the time and energy is worth the health and physical benefits that dance can bring.

We are looking forward to OJAI DAY on Saturday, October 16th from 10-5pm.  Starlight will have a booth in the children’s area where we will be having a coloring contest, fundraising for our Performance Group and pre-viewing the June Recital Picture DVD (orders will be delivered later this month to those who have already paid).  We will also have two performances in the Gazebo (in the children’s area close to the restrooms) beginning at 11:00.  We ask that our Level I, II and II Tiny Tots and Minis join us at 10:45 dressed in pink and black leotards with tap shoes for our Performance of “When I Grow Up”.  Directly after this group the Petite Stars and the Junior/Senior Galaxy will be performing on the same stage.  Even if you are not in the performances, please come out and support our dancers – hoot and holler!

Due to the 11:00 start time of our performances, the Saturday Level II/III class will not meet on October 16th.  I ask that you come to another level II/III or level IV class to do a make-up, any time in the Fall Session.

A friendly reminder that you are not to wear your dance shoes outside of the studio.  This not only damages your shoes, but it tracks extra dirt and debris into the studio where our dancers are stretching and exercising on the floor.  Thank you for your understanding.

September 2010:

We are looking forward to classes!

CeCe and I have been working hard getting ready for the upcoming session and we are excited to see our returning students and meet all of our new dancers.  We have added a few classes and want to work with your busy schedules as much as possible, so if you think a class might not work for you, please call us and we can talk about alternatives.

We have altered the tuition payments from monthly to session payments; the first session payment is due in September and the second in November.  The Fall Session runs September 7th-December 18th with the Winter Performance on December 19th.  The make-up policy, however, remains.  If your child misses a class due to illness or emergency, they are more than welcome to come to another class in the same session in which it was missed.  Please call the studio ahead of time to let us know that you will be making up a missed class so that the teacher is well informed.

The Wednesday Level I and II Combos are now full.  There is still space in the Thursday and Saturday Level I and the Friday III/IV and Saturday II/III.

Calling all Hip Hoppers!  Osea travels from Hollywood to teach at our studio and we would love to keep him coming!  Please tell all of your friends about the Hip Hop classes on Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 (ages 6-10) and 5:30-6:30 (ages 11-adult).

Hello to everyone!

Hope your summer is going well.  Just a few weeks to go before school starts…Get ready!
We are writing with great news about the upcoming year at Starlight Dance Academy.  New classes, instructors and enthusiasm about dance!  We had a great recital in June and were more than impressed with the dancers at our studio…We were blown away!  Such great dancing!

Mark your calendars for important upcoming events:
1) Hip Hop workshop with Osea Tuesday, August 10th from 1-3pm.  Ages 11 and up.  $35 cash or check.  (please reserve your place in the workshop by responding to this email).
2) Fall Session registration Saturday, August 14th from 1-4pm.  Pay in full for the session and receive a 10% off or a free t-shirt! (offer available on or before August 14th ONLY).
3) Starlight Dance Company Performance Groups starting in September!  The Petite Stars and Junior Galaxy will be Performance groups meeting each Friday for 1.5 hours working on technique, progressions and choreography with guest instructors.  There will be additional performances and a yearly trip to the Tremaine Dance Convention in Los Angeles.  The Performance Groups will be required to take a ballet class and one additional discipline to be considered for the Company.  Please contact CeCe or I for more information.
4) September 7th Fall Session begins!

Pictures and DVD’s are IN!  Come by the studio on August 14th to pick yours up!

We now carry dance shoes and attire priced to save you money.  All items are ordered on the day you purchase through us and will be available in one business week.  Check out our shoes, leotards, tights and dance shorts at the studio.

We are working on improving and updating our website this August.  You will be able to register for classes and pay online soon!  The Fall Schedule will be updated this weekend as well as new tuition arrangements.  Please check our website frequently as we will be adding a Performance page, Monthly Newsletter, Performance Videos, photos and more…

Thanks to our students and supporters we raised $330 for our Scholarship Fund.  Due to our wish to extend dance to as many students as possible, we will be offering 5 partial scholarships for the 2010/2011 dance year.  All persons interested in applying must contact SDA and make arrangements to meet and discuss options.  (please note that the scholarships are offered to the Petite age dancer and older (7 and up).  All students formerly on scholarship with SDA must re-apply annually.
